Dynamic Widgets and side menus
I am trying to figure out how to get a menu to show up in the theme just like the live demo.
Go to Live Demo -> Click on any of the Read More links. The menu is on the left. I have attached a screen shot.
I have quite a few pages where I need a menu with specific pages only. I do have Dynamic Widgets installed but using it is very confusing and I have not been able to find a satisfactory tutorial(let alone even a simple walk-through) on how to set it up.
Any help would be greatly appreciated!
Well, I did have ALL the menus showing but now only a ‘meta’ widget is showing there. Sigh. This is not an ‘easy’ widget as some would have you believe.
I did learn that I can create a new menu and assign that to the dynamic widget but as noted, said widget is only displaying the ‘meta’ widget instead of the custom menu I create.
OK, I re-created a new widget an that got me a listing of all kinds of pages. Getting closer I think.
Woo! Got it! Seems that I had to go back and tell it to use the custom menu AGAIN. Now it works Still not a big fan of ‘try random options to get it to work because no one, not even the author, bothered to make a simply how-to guide.’
In the demo, what I did was create a single menu specifically for the section (Appearance → Menus).
Then I just added a core WP “Custom Menu” widget into the Pages Widget area (Appearance → Widgets).
As for displaying the menus on specific pages, here is a tutorial on the Dynamic Widgets plug-in:
