Hi,

I upgraded to Wordpress 4.3 and am now seeing a strange piece of text at the top of my pages (all of them).

The HTML is:

<!—Favicons
==================================================—>

<link rel=“shortcut icon” href=“http://www.instituteofpublicspeaking.com/wp-content/themes/synapse-child/images/favicon.ico”>

<link rel=“apple-touch-icon” href=“http://www.instituteofpublicspeaking.com/wp-content/themes/synapse-child/images/apple-touch-icon.png”>

<link rel=“apple-touch-icon” sizes=“72x72” href=“http://www.instituteofpublicspeaking.com/wp-content/themes/synapse-child/images/apple-touch-icon-72x72.png” />

<link rel=“apple-touch-icon” sizes=“114x114” href=“http://www.instituteofpublicspeaking.com/wp-content/themes/synapse-child/images/apple-touch-icon-114x114.png” />

<link rel=“pingback” href=“https://www.instituteofpublicspeaking.com/xmlrpc.php” />

<link rel=“stylesheet” id=“custom” href=“https://www.instituteofpublicspeaking.com/?get_styles=css&sidebar=right” type=“text/css” media=“all” />
111111

The 111111 is showing at the top of the page.

Any ideas?

Thanks,
Joe

Hi Joe,

Thanks for bringing this to my attention.
This has been addressed in Synapse v.3.1.7. If you’ll run the update you should be all set.

Yes, this was fixed in v2.2.0. If you’re using the child theme, you should be able to update.

HI-

I am also getting this error after updating to current version of wordpress. I have updated the synapse parent theme to 3.1.7 and am using a child theme, but am still getting the 111111 in the upper left corner of the header on all pages.

files that i have added to and modified in the child theme (that were part of v3.1.5) include: header.php, footer.php, functions.php, style.css and style1.css. so i am guessing that one of those files is the source of the issue.

Do you have a fix that you can post up for me?

Thanks!

mike-

UPDATE: if you are having this issue like me because you are using functions.php from v3.1.5 in your child theme, just remove ‘echo’ from line 176 in functions.php where it says ‘echo apply_filters’ and the issue resolves. (thanks Casey for the note).

Yay. I did the line 176 edit - 11111111 went away, and now the ICO file is back too! Bonus.

Having this issue in Mobius.  I don’t see that there has been any upgrades made to this theme.  Is there a fix for it as well?

Thanks!

Did you install the child theme?
https://www.simplethemes.com/theme-docs/mobius-docs#200

Updates overwrite the current theme, and are disabled unless the child theme is installed.

If you haven’t modified your parent theme files, I suggest installing and activating the child theme.

The manual option is to change functions.php, line #388 from:

 echo apply_filters ('add_stylesheets',$stylesheets);

to:

 apply_filters ('add_stylesheets',$stylesheets);

Thank you for the response.  The child theme is not installed and it seems that when I do, it really changes the look of the site.  I am coming on late to the project and can’t say for sure that the parent them has been customized directly outside of the theme customization options and the “custom CSS” function.

Is there no other solution to this issue other than installing the child theme?

I did see your previous reply.  See my previous question after your previous reply.

Is there no other solution but to install the child theme?  I seems that if the issue is caused by the parent theme, there should be a fix to the parent that can be applied.

If you don’t want to install the child theme, you can edit line #388 of your current (parent) theme.

If the child theme is installed and activated, remote update are automatically downloaded. Remote updates completely overwrite the parent theme but leave your child theme (overrides) untouched.

So to reiterate, the alternative to installing the parent theme is to apply the update manually on line #388 in functions.php of your current theme.

Lastly, the probable reasons your site looks different when the child theme is activated is:

a.) Changes have been made to the files of the parent theme.
b.) Theme options (and possibly menu/widget locations) are saved in the database with the active theme slug as the key, therefore theme options would need to re-saved. https://cl.ly/060g0v2N0f3c

Thank you for the clarification, and the edit to the functions.php worked.

I was under the impression from your initial response that the edit to the functions.php was to the child theme and not the parent.

It does indeed look as if the parent itself has been modified previously by the original developer of the site.  I do understand that any updates to the parent would wipe out any of the changes made.

Thanks again for the solution.
