For one year i working with your mobius theme. Now, i would like to create a child theme. Do you have a simple discription for creating a child theme? How can i copy all theme settings from the wordpress backend of the original theme to the child theme? It would be nice when the page looks as the original page after activating the child theme.

Excuse my simple question but I’m a beginner.

Thanks

Marc

Hi Marc,

Your theme options are saved to a serialized array in the database, probably with the option_name of “mobius” or “mobiuschild”.

If you’ve been using Mobius for awhile, your best best may be to copy mobius/options.php to mobius-child/options.php via FTP and change the first function to:

function optionsframework_option_name() {

 $themename
'mobius';

$optionsframework_settings get_option'optionsframework' );

$optionsframework_settings['id'$themename;

update_option'optionsframework'$optionsframework_settings );

Hi Casey,

thank you for this information. I adapted the option.php and uploaded to the correct directory of the child theme.

function optionsframework_option_name() {

// This gets the theme name from the stylesheet

$theme  wp_get_theme();

$themename $theme['mobius'];

$themename preg_replace("/\W/""_"strtolower($themename) );

$optionsframework_settings get_option'optionsframework' );

$optionsframework_settings['id'$themename;

update_option'optionsframework'$optionsframework_settings );

It’s looks a little better, but not perfect yet. Take a look at the following pictures:

The original theme:

The child theme:

Do you have an additional idea?

It looks like the theme options are not being applied. Is this on a local or public server?
The original settings are saved to the database, but for some reason are not being picked up. If you look at your wp_options database tables, you should see a row named “mobius” or “mobiuschild”. What you want to do is copy one to the other.
