Post Custom Excerpt Missing “Continue Reading” tab

I have noticed that when I add a custom post excerpt, the “Continue Reading” tab disappears from the post summary page. I have attached images to show this.

In your first screenshot, is it displaying the entire post?
If so, the reason “Continue Reading” is not displayed is because the entire post is being displayed. If you’ve entered an excerpt, it will display in place of the content (on non single-view pages).

You may want to manual use the read more tag instead:

Hi Casey,

No this is not the entire post.

As explained I am using the excerpt text edit box to add a custom excerpt, which allows me to control the length of the excerpt.
