“Featured Image” link not available to add slide

When I choose Slides > Add New Slide, there is no way to indicate an image to use (no “featured image”) link appears.  I have no way of associating an image with a slide.  The only way to get a “featured image” link is in the Media Library properties, but this is not associated with a slideshow/slide.

If you click on “Screen Options” in the upper right hand corner, is “Featured Image” not available?

No.
The Screen Options on the “Add New Slide” screen are all checked.  They are: Slide Options Slug Author Slideshows (same as “Edit Slide”)
On the “Slideshows” screen all are checked.  They are: Description Slug Slides
On the “Slides” screen we have only Author Date
All are checked on all screens.

Is this on a live server where I can login to see what might be the issue?
Feel free to PM me your wp-admin info and I’ll take a look.

Also, it could be a conflicting plugin. The best way is to deactivate one-by-one each plugin that might be overriding the post thumbnails.

It looks like your using WordPress MU.
You need to go to Settings → Network Settings → scroll down to “Upload Settings” and make sure Images is checked.

Thanks, Casey!  I’ve got my “Featured Image” on the right column as expected.  Really appreciate the super-fast response (particularly on a Friday afternoon).  Again, many thanks.  Great theme, here.  We really like it.

I’m so close.  Everything looks fine, but I don’t get the images in the show.  I saw an earlier question about images not showing and the response was the cache permissions.  I have those set to 777 but still not seeing images.  Thoughts?

It appears we need to test if WP MU is configured before returning $theimage to the slider. What’s happening is the timthumb script is trying to access the image using the .htaccess method instead of the real file path (located in blogs.dir).

I was able to replicate the issue on a local WPMU install, however I used the subfolder method vs. the subdomain method. Either way, this should work…

Go to wp-content/themes/onyx/lib//functions/content_functions.php and find the get_image_path() function.

Replace with this:

function get_image_path() {
 global $post;
 global $blog_id;

 $thumbnail = wp_get_attachment_image_src(get_post_thumbnail_id(), 'large');
 $theimage = $thumbnail[0];
 // TEST FOR WP MU
 if (isset($blog_id) && $blog_id > 0) {
 $realpath = explode('/files/', $theimage);
  if (isset($realpath[1])) {
   $theimage = get_site_option('siteurl') . 'wp-content' . '/blogs.dir/' . $blog_id . '/files/' . $realpath[1];
  }
 }
 return $theimage;
}

Thanks a ton for getting back to us so quickly on a Friday. I replaced the function as you directed and I can associate an image with a slide and a slideshow, but the image urls in the src field do not seem to be correct.

You can see an example at the top of the page at:
http://library-test.drake.edu/

The image tag in the source looks like this:

<img alt="purcell test" class="fullsize" src="http://library-test.drake.edu/wp-content/themes/onyx_rsl/thumb.php?src=http://library-test.drake.edu/wp-content/blogs.dir/1/files/2011/06/box33.jpg&amp;h=250&amp;w=600"/>

Thanks,

We just promoted a new site from test to production.  Slideshow will not work now.  Images are broken image.
see collections.libtest.drake.edu/md-test-page

(1) content_functions.php has been updated with the code above
(2) cache directory has full permissions
(3) urls point to correct image location
(4) image can be retrieved by web server

I’m at a loss.  Any suggestions?
Thanks.

I’m seeing two possible things.

Please try this first:

First, make a backup of your theme’s thumb.php.
Next, replace the contents of thumb.php with the latest version:
http://timthumb.googlecode.com/svn/trunk/timthumb.php

If that did not work, you just need to add libtest.drake.edu to your allowedsites array in thumb.php.

Thanks so much.

Thumb.php had already been updated, so I checked the allowsites array.  That was problem.  As soon as I added the domain, everything worked as expected.

As always, great support!!
Thanks again.
