Synapse and the PNG / PSD source files
Hopefully a simple question but one that other users may also find helpful. Up until now we’ve edited all the themes using the PSD files. They’ve been great allowing us to easily edit the look and feel of a site.
The new Synapse template has the PSD source file but also the PNG. Appreciate this is software related but using your PSD source file the file exports out all the elements perfectly when using the slice. We’re keen to explore editing the PNG.
Does the PNG export out all the layers or would we need to use / apply a particular setting? Wasn’t sure if you might be able to help on this one.
Is there any benefit to editing your PNG’s instead of the PSD’s?
Hi Marts, Good question.
The PNG source file is actually the true source file. It was created in Adobe Fireworks. The PSD is actually an export, but has the slice names still in tact. I prefer to use Fireworks because it is made for the web (proper aliasing, colors, vectors, etc) while Photoshop is more geared towards bitmap/photo editing.
If you open the PNG in Fireworks, you should be able to customize things much easier.
Thanks Casey. Will have to get to grips with Fireworks:)
